Celebrating silver jubilee
2022 is a year of great significance to Aravind-Coimbatore as the hospital crosses another milestone in its journey - completing 25 years of service. The hospital was opened in January 1997 in response to the increasing demand for eye care from patients in the north western portion of the state of Tamil Nadu. The hospital at present has a bed capacity of 569 which include 400 beds for the camp and free direct walk-in patients. Today, the hospital handles about 540,000 out-patient visits and 90,000 surgeries a year. It also offers residency programmes and fellowships.
Mega camp at Thirukailayaypuram
In association with Vetrivel Murugan Temple in Thirukailayapuram, Aravind has been conducting comprehensive eye screening camps in Thirukailayapuram since 1994. These camps have always been highly successful and productive; over the past two decades, 29,662 patients were screened and over 18,150 patients underwent surgery. In the mega camp held on March 19, a total of 1,254 patients were screened and 960 underwent surgery.
