Aravind Eye Care System presented the Dr. G. Venkataswamy Memorial Award 2022 to Doraiswamy Nagarajan in appreciation of his enduring contributions to eye care and in particular towards capacity building of eye hospitals across the world. The ceremony was held at Dr. G. Venkataswamy Eye Research Institute on 1st October 2022. Nagarajan delivered the Oration titled “Society, Service, Spirituality.”

A year-long activities were organised at Aravind-Pondicherry to commemorate the occasion of it completing two decades of service in eye care services. These include CME programmes, competitions for staff, and a get-together of the alumni doctors of the hospital. Hospital day celebration organised on February 18 marked the culmination of these events which was attended by seniors from across the Aravind centres, friends and well-wishers from the community as well as staff members.

Since inception 45 years ago, strong leadership has been one of the cornerstones of Aravind’s pursuit to remain as a purpose driven organisation.
To develop a pipeline of purpose-driven leaders at all levels to steer the growing organisation in an ever-changing ecosystem, the leadership at Aravind prioritised this initiative as one of the critical elements to the organisation’s sustainability. “Kaushalam, Transformation for Excellence” a one-year programme was launched in October 2022 to address this need.
This programme targeted young ophthalmologists who are either leading a department or one of the eye care facilities within the network. Sixteen doctors from different centres of Aravind, willingly enrolled in the programme. The programme consists of three segments:

The foundation course to get to know oneself and develop a bond among the participants held at Pegasus Institute, Pondicherry and Aurosociety’s Sharanam in October 2022

Values-based Infinite Vision Leadership session series held in Chennai (October 2022), Hyderabad (January 2023) and Coimbatore (March 2023).
Aravind Eye Care System is indebted to Masood Hussainy, Vice President, Tata Advanced Systems and Tata Aerospace and Defence, Hyderabad for conceiving and leading the Value-based Infinite Vision Leadership series. His leadership in designing and running tri-series evoked deep reflections and shared the learning by the participants. To facilitate an enriched learning experience, three senior leaders from Tata Advanced Systems, Hyderabad and a senior official from Mahatma Montessori School, Madurai participated in the tri-series.
Masood was supported by Dr. Siddharth Narendran, Medical Officer, Coimbatore and Sridevi Chavali, General Manager, Tata Advanced Systems, Bangalore as the co-facilitators of the tri-series.
